Amagansett
East of East Hampton is the small hamlet of Amagansett. Amagansett is regarded as one of the most popular Hamptons resort areas with oceanfront real estate, pristine beaches and a historic Main Street filled with restaurants, boutiques, and inns. The mix of quaint and chic stores and the legendary Farmer's Market on Montauk Highway are well-known in the Hamptons.
Amagansett includes a section of Further Lane, which is a block from the ocean, and has one of the biggest collections of mansions in East Hampton. In 2007, one of the estates sold for $107 million which was the highest price for a private residential property. Many famous people have resided here because of its popularity as a resort location. These celebrities include Paul McCartney, Jerry Seinfeld, Christie Brinkley, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, and Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.
Bridgehampton
Relaxation is what Bridgehampton is all about. Bridgehampton has an array of white-sand ocean beaches, including Sagg Main, W. Scott Cameron or Mecox. The scenery is beautiful with stretches of farmland and magnificent vineyards. In town, the Children's Museum and Candy Kitchen for homemade ice cream are the perfect place to take the family.
Bridgehampton is widely known for the annual Hampton's Classic horse show. The show displays some of the finest Olympic show jumping athletes in North America, attracting over 60,000 spectators in this sporting/social event.
Bridgehampton also features The Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge. The famed match takes place at the Bridgehampton Polo Club and is a social tradition. Some of the world's greatest equestrian athletes compete year after year for one of the most treasured prizes.
East Hampton
East Hampton is overflowing with multifaceted pleasures of serenity, excitement and inspiration. The town of East Hampton has such an extraordinary historical heritage and has been home to families of stature for the past 10-12 generations. East Hampton presents uniqueness in its architecture and landscape that artists and writers have gravitated towards for years. Today's East Hampton is noted for its pristine beaches, fine dining and shopping.
East Hampton offers a large selection of charming accommodations. In addition to its beautiful ocean and bay beaches, there are parks and picnic grounds for families to enjoy. Sag Harbor
Sag Harbor has a charming village that is right next to the ocean, north of the highway. Main Street is an ideal town that is family friendly but also features unique boutiques and well-acclaimed restaurants. Additionally, there is the culture Bay Street Theatre with the celebrity cache American Hotel.
Sag Harbor was a major whaling port during the 1800s, which is shown through its architecture. Sag Harbor's streets are filled with grand Greek Revival mansions, old Victorian, cape cottages and authentic saltboxes. In the summer, the windmill where John Steinbeck once lived serves as a visitor center. Vacationers have a wide array of marinas, yacht clubs and docks to choose from. Sag Harbor's shores, with views of Shelter Island in the distance, provide sand beaches with gentle waters.
Sagaponack
Sagaponack is a village in the town of Southampton. In 2006, Forbes Magazine announced the Sagaponack ZIP code as the most expensive ZIP code based on the median house price of $2,787,500. This town is among the most private of Hamptons' hamlets.
Sagaponack's classic shingled mansions are built on wide open spaces, originally potato fields. The beautiful ocean beaches include Gibson Beach and Sagg Main Beach. Next to the beach are beautiful horses roaming the pastures. The countryside includes 55 acres of Wolffer Vineyard, perfect for wine tasting.
Wainscott
Facing the Atlantic to the south, Wainscott has some of the most exclusive and expensive properties in the world. Wainscott is south of the highway and west of Georgica Pond. On its west is the village of Sagaponack and on the east is the village of East Hampton. It is known for the pristine sand beach, the Atlantic, and the fabulous beach homes.
Wainscott has a strong historical and agricultural aura. Many of the farm houses date back to the 1700's. This quintessential community encompasses the Hamptons way of life. The east side of Wainscott faces Georgica Pond. The exclusive Georgica Association has a 100-acre subdivision on the west side of the pond. The most famous house in the Georgica Association is called Michael Kennedy house.
Water Mill
Home to well-known authors, artists and actors, Water Mill offers diverse real estate with a charming community. Water Mill has one of the highest median home prices in New York State. As of 2009, Water Mill was listed as the sixth most expensive Small Town in the United States by Business Week. The median home price was $2,238,66.
In 1644, England gave settlers 40 acres of land near Southampton to build a mill for grinding grain into meal. By the 1800s, the landmarked area was fittingly named Water Mill. Today the hamlet is the only place with a functioning watermill and windmill.
