Sag Harbor
Sag Harbor has a charming village that is right next to the ocean, north of the highway. Sag Harbor was a major whaling port during the 1800s, which is shown through its architecture. Sag Harbor’s streets are filled with grand Greek Revival mansions, old Victorian, cape cottages and authentic saltboxes. In the summer, the windmill where John Steinbeck once lived serves as a visitor center. Vacationers have a wide array of marinas, yacht clubs and docks to choose from. Sag Harbor’s shores, with views of Shelter Island in the distance, provide sand beaches with gentle waters.
